Rhonda Knudsen
I was born and raised in Montana – a product of Rudyard, Malta, Colstrip and Missoula – and a graduate of the University of Montana. I recently returned home to family in Billings after living and working in Seattle.
My creative process is guided by intuition, material exploration, and a strong sense of color. Using graphite, ink, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, oil, and charcoal, I move fluidly between mediums, often combining them to create layered, dynamic compositions. My work ranges from large-scale abstraction to figurative pieces that blend abstraction with elements of design and realism. Color serves as the unifying thread throughout my work, shaping both structure and expression.
My practice is rooted in curiosity, experimentation, and an ongoing process of discovery. During my time in
Seattle, I was fortunate to be part of an artist collective and gallery, an experience that deepened my
appreciation for the community, collaboration, and connection that can grow among artists. It was one of
the most rewarding aspects of my time there, and I am excited to find and hope to contribute to that same
sense of community and collaboration here in Montana.
