Ken Dvorak

ARTISTS STATAMENT

Hi, I’m Ken Dvorak, a retired teacher, who decided to become a Fine Art Nature Photographer.  We recently moved back to Montana from Washington state.  We lived in the rain shadow of the Olympic National Park.  It was an area where I had wanted to take photos for a long time.  Now I’m exploring Montana for images to add to my portfolio.

My photography career started back in the late 60’s when I was in the Navy.  I worked in an office onboard a ship in Newport, RI.  In our office was the ship’s photo lab and I became friends with the ship’s photographer.  I bought a used 35mm Pentax and started shooting black and white images around Newport.  I was able to use the ship’s lab after the work day and learned how to develop black and white film and print my images.  Later I set up my digital darkroom at our house.  My current darkroom is in our basement.

I like the idea of having control over my images from the click of the shutter to seeing the final print come out of the printer.  I also mat and frame my own images for display and sale.

I was accepted in June of 2022 to join the Sandstone Gallery.

Hope you enjoy.
