Artist’s Biography

Dione Roberts was born in Billings, Montana and has lived there all her life.  Growing up in a house filled with kilns allowed her to experiment with melting glass, stretching bottles and making jewelry and glass tiles at an early age.  She began designing and fabricating stained glass in 1980 and continues to make originally designed fused glass, stained glass and mosaics.

Much of her fused and painted glass work reflects her Montana roots.  The Montana landscape, wheat, and crows as well as fantastical fish are often her subject matter.  Adding texture through the use of ground glass in the forms of frit, powders and strings of glass are an important part of her work and she creates many elements using torches and heat.  Pieces are fired multiple times at temperatures reaching 1500 degrees.  She also works in a reverse fired enamel technique where designs and patterns are painted on the back of the glass, a technique that takes up to 8 twelve-hour firings.  

In her studio, she works with clients to make originally designed pieces of glass art for their homes.
