Cecil Pegram

PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

From an early age, I was drawn to art and the creative process. During my service in the U.S. Air Force, my exposure to European art and culture deepened that passion and shaped my artistic perspective. After completing my service, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Noth Carolina at Greensboro, with a concentration in painting and printmaking.

I soon discovered that earning a living wasn’t as simple as earning a degree. Over the years, I gained a wide range of experiences – from bartending and sales to working in a tin mine in Alaska. Through it all, art remained my constant source of purpose and expression. Today, I’ve returned to my passion, fully dedicated to pursuing my artistic journey.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I deeply relate to the words of French poet Paul Valery, who wrote “Art is never finished, only abandoned.”  The idea resonates with my creative process – each piece is part of an ongoing exploration rather than a final destination. My work reflects a continual search for balance between intention and discovery, embracing the imperfections and evolution that define the artistic journey.
